We will be covering all the basics of Chemistry first and revisiting math concepts you will need during the year. Then we will analyze matter and their characteristics. These concepts include explaining chemicals and their reactive properties. Students study the fundamentals of molecular interactions and how they are measured. Students will work on mastering their experimental methods during this class, and will be challenged to design their own experiment at some point.
First, we will discuss how molecular materials are measured and quantified. Students will then apply these measuring techniques in a variety of lab exercises that involve the study of chemical energy in the forms of heat and light.
Then will then expand to include the Periodic Table. The layout of the Periodic Table will be explained and then allow students to understand the characteristics behind chemical bonding between atoms and the molecular structure of chemical compounds.
At the same time, the students will be involve in discussions on polarity and some interesting specifics behind liquids and solids. Advanced topics such as chemical equilibrium and chemical kinetics follow. Students will learn the significance of how time and concentration plays a role in the reactivity of chemicals.
At the end of the year, the discussions and experiments and experiments will be over specific topics such as pH, acids, bases, electrolytes, carbon chemistry, and the chemistry of the environment.
